Designing through dialogue with DCCEEW

This artwork for the Aboriginal Water Entitlements Program reflects the living relationship between people, Country and water in the Murray-Darling Basin. Through consultation and story, we translated program values into imagery that celebrates culture, connection and care for future generations.

Our Approach

Guided by client communication, we moved away from traditional government artwork styles, creating an abstract and storytelling-led design. Our process combined cultural symbolism, program values and stakeholder insights to ensure accessibility and cultural strength in both visual form and narrative.

The Mission

The goal was to communicate the AWEP in a culturally respectful and engaging way. By integrating program steps, values and community connections, the artwork provides a resource that speaks to diverse audiences while honouring Country and culture.

The Outcome

The final artwork celebrates the Murray-Darling Basin and its ecosystems, featuring species, people and landscapes significant to culture and story. It conveys care, responsibility and resilience, providing DCCEEW with a distinctive design for use across presentations, posters and community engagement.
